Born October 15, 1977, Masato Kawabata is a professional driver from Osaka and holder of the world’s fastest drifting record. A three-time all-around series championship winner in the D1 Grand Prix, a drift competition originating in Japan, Kawabata was also the victor in the first FIA-recognized International Drifting Cup that was run in 2017.
In 2014, he challenged the “Hill Climb” competition on the Hakone Turnpike, a public road without any escape zones, and showed incredible full-on drifting at 215km/h. The video of this awesome performance has racked up over 1.8 million views!
