Operational Status of the Sendai Plant One Month after the Earthquake

Osaka, Japan - April 11, 2011 - TOYO TIRE & RUBBER CO., LTD. (President and CEO: Kenji Nakakura) would like to express our sincere condolences to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Eastern Japan.

At midnight on April 7th, there was an aftershock of the Eastern Japan Earthquake.  The Sendai Plant (in Iwanuma City, Miyagi Prefecture), which mainly manufactures passenger car tires and light truck tires, halted production due to temporary power outage.  However, power was restored the next day, and manufacturing activities resumed on April 8th, after safety inspections.

The manufacturing situation has begun to recover steadily, and as of April 10th, it has achieved to about 40% of the level prior to the earthquake.
Further, beginning today, the work capacity will be further increased so that operations will begin at about 70% of the level prior to the earthquake.  The plan for the future is to step up the rate of operations in stages while responding flexibly to supply and logistical issues, so that by May, operations may resume at full capacity.
